Industrial pumps

Engineered for maximum reliability in critical process applications
Magneet koppeling - NdFeB & SmCo

In industries where hazardous, corrosive or high-value fluids are handled, pump reliability is critical. Leakage, seal failure and unplanned downtime can have significant operational, environmental and financial consequences.

Magnetic drive technology eliminates the need for mechanical shaft seals by transferring torque contactlessly through a containment shell. The result is a completely hermetic pump design with fewer wear components, reduced maintenance requirements and increased operational reliability.

Bakker Magnetics works with OEM pump manufacturers to engineer and manufacture magnetic coupling systems optimized for their specific pump application, from initial concept and magnetic engineering to prototyping, validation and reliable serial production.

Engineering magnetic couplings for critical pump applications

Every pump application presents its own engineering challenges.

Every pump application has different requirements. Operating temperature, pressure, rotational speed, transmitted torque, containment shell material and available installation space all influence magnetic coupling performance.
That is why we approach the magnetic coupling as an integrated part of the pump design rather than as a standard component. Our engineers optimize each magnetic system for:

  • Maximum transmitted torqu
  • High efficiency
  • Compact dimensions
  • Thermal stability
  • Reduced eddy current losses
  • Reliable long-term operation

Using advanced magnetic calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), different configurations can be evaluated and optimized before physical prototypes are produced. This allows magnetic performance to be engineered into the pump from the beginning.

Why magnetic drive technology?

Replacing a conventional mechanical shaft seal with a magnetic coupling creates a completely sealed torque transmission system.

Leak-free operation
Torque is transferred through the containment shell without a physical shaft penetration, eliminating dynamic shaft seals and reducing the risk of process fluid leakage.

Higher reliability
Contactless torque transmission and fewer wear components reduce maintenance requirements and the risk of unexpected pump failure.

Lower Total Cost of Ownership
Reduced maintenance, longer service intervals and increased process uptime can significantly lower lifecycle costs. Magnetic drive technology is particularly suited for pumps handling hazardous, corrosive, flammable, ultra-pure or high-value process fluids.

From engineering to serial production

A successful magnetic coupling requires more than selecting powerful magnets. Magnetic design, materials, thermal behaviour, mechanical integration and manufacturing all need to work together.

Bakker Magnetics supports OEM development teams throughout the complete process:

01 — Concept & engineering
Defining the magnetic architecture based on torque, speed, temperature, dimensions and operating conditions.

02 — Simulation & optimization
Optimizing pole geometry, magnetic flux, air gaps, torque density, thermal behaviour and demagnetization margins.

03 — Prototyping & validation

04 — Serial production
Managing manufacturing, assembly, quality control and supply for consistent and scalable production.

One engineering partner from first idea to reliable serial production.

Magnetic materials for demanding conditions

Material selection is an integral part of magnetic coupling design.

Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) provides high magnetic strength and torque density, making it ideal for compact, high-performance coupling designs.

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) offers excellent thermal and magnetic stability and is particularly suitable for high-temperature and demanding operating environments.

Our engineers select the material and magnetic configuration based on the requirements of the complete pump system, not simply on magnetic strength.
